3 Ways to Use Toy Cars to Encourage Early Speech and Language Skills

Playing with toy cars is a time-tested and relatively inexpensive way to target early speech and language skills. I get my toy cars from Dollar Tree and Target and find that I can easily integrate them into play routines.

Here are three ways to use toy cars to target speech and language skills during play routines with your little one:

  1. Imitate sounds

Use cars to imitate symbolic sounds and exclamatory words like “zoom", "beep", "honk", and "crash".

  2. Practice core vocabulary

Reinforce vocabulary, such as: stop, go, fast, slow, again, more, help, want, etc.

  3. Target verbal routines

Create and practice verbal routines, such as: “ready, set, go!” and “one, two, three, go!”

Enjoy!
